How to Combat Low Self-Esteem This Summer

How often do you have issues with low self-esteem?

After months of wearing a multitude of warm layers and baggy clothes, it can be difficult to start showing your skin again once summer comes back around.

We get so comfortable with hiding how we look from the world. We try and avoid the world seeing more, in fear of what other people may think.

Here at Castle Gym, we have some tips to help you feel more confident and comfortable in your own skin this summer.

Remember that everyone is different!

Not a single person looks the same as someone else, not even twins. It’s important to remember that there is no actual definition of ‘perfect’. You are perfect in your own way, and you should embrace who you are.

Everyone has their own quirks and features which make them who they are. You have your own hobbies, you have your own personality and even your style.

Everyone is on their own journey which is such a wonderful thing. The world works in very strange ways, but there is a plan set out for you. Trust the journey that you’re on.

Focus on the positives

This is a tough one to combat, especially if you feel as though there is nothing good about yourself at all, but we promise you that there is. Even if it’s something as simple as that you’re a good friend, or you make people smile, we can assure you that there are many good qualities about you.

We recommend writing down 3 positive things each morning that you like about yourself, no matter how small they may be. This can really help to boost your confidence for the day. As each day goes by, you may feel like you can write down more, which is great!

Whenever you start to feel low, refer back to the list that you’ve written, it can really help to bring you back to reality and remind yourself that you are a good person with some amazing qualities.

Try new hobbies

This tip may sound cliché however, trying out new hobbies can help you find new things that you’re passionate about. Therefore find new activities that you’re interested in that you can do to help you feel better.

Finding your creative outlet can help to keep your brain active and your mind off whatever it is you may be worried about.

Hobbies can really help your self-esteem as they can help you recognise new activities that you enjoy and are also good at.

Surround yourself with people who make you feel good

Surrounding yourself with good friends and people who you enjoy spending your time with can always help boost your mood. Spend more time with people who hype you up and make you feel great about anything you accomplish or achieve.

Spending time with ‘friends’ who put you down constantly and refuse to celebrate your accomplishments is not worth being around, trust us on this one!

It may originally hurt to remove them from your life, but in the long term, it will help you feel so much better. You will begin to notice this once your mood starts boosting and your self-esteem starts to improve.

Friends will always come and go throughout your life, but as long as you surround yourself with the correct people, that’s all that matters.

Make more memories and keep visual reminders

Having a memento to look back on, can help you continue to recognise all of the good things you have accomplished.

Every time you go out, take more pictures with your friends. Keep memos of all the great things you have done. If you really like an outfit that you’re wearing one day, take a picture! If you’re having a great time out with a friend, you guessed it, take a picture!

Life is all about making great memories! It can help you when you’re feeling down to look back and remember the great memories you’ve had.
